Why Train Your Dog?

Every breed of dog was initially developed for a specific job. While some breeds had jobs which required the dog to work closely with humans, other breeds worked without direct contact with their handler. Therefore, some breeds are more responsive than others to taking direction from humans. However all dogs, regardless of breed, can be taught the behaviors to make them good companions.

  • Training strengthens the relationship between you and your dog.
  • Training increases the enjoyment, companionship and satisfaction you receive from your dog.
  • Training keeps your dog safe and happy.
  • Training teaches your dog to behave in ways that please you. Dogs are social animals and need to be provided with structure and boundaries. Training provides that structure and teaches the dog what it can and cannot (or should not) do.
  • Training includes basic obedience, house manners and polite manners in public. It also includes tricks, teaching your dog to help with chores around the house and anything else that you want your dog to learn.

TRAINING SHOULD BE FUN FOR BOTH YOU AND YOUR DOG!

Your dog’s behavior is a direct reflection of the time and effort you put into your dog – owners who care about their dogs care enough to train their dogs.

Why Choose ABC Dog Training LLC ?

There is currently no licensing or regulation of obedience instructors or dog trainers so dog owners need to ask questions about education, experience and qualifications.

    Education

Jan Gribble, the owner of ABC Dog Training LLC, has a Master’s degree in Biological Anthropology from the University of New Mexico. Teaching people is a skill apart from training dogs, and her graduate level work included the skills necessary to be an effective teacher. She continually strives to improve her knowledge of canine behavior and training methods by keeping current with the latest studies in canine behavior, reading, watching videos and attending at least two seminars related to training and/or behavior annually.

    Experience

Jan has been training dogs since 1987 and began instructing dog classes in 1991. In addition to training her own dogs, she has worked with shelter dogs and rescue groups. She was the recipient of a Community Service Award from Albuquerque Animal Services Department in 1999. Using her knowledge of many different training techniques she has successfully trained, and helped owners train, a wide range of breeds.

    Qualifications

Jan is a member of the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors (NADOI). Established in 1965, NADOI is the oldest dog organization in the United States that endorses obedience instructors and membership is contingent upon experience and a demonstrated knowledge of training and instructing skills. She is also a member of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP). She was certified as a dog behavior consultant by the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC) in 2004. As a freelance writer who has been published in several dog-related venues, she is a member of the Dog Writers' Association of America.

Whether you retain the services of ABC Dog Training for private lessons, help with a behavior problem or enroll in a class, you will receive the information and assistance you need to turn your dog into a companion.
