		Dog Training as Simple as ABC

	TESTIMONIALS I have known Jan since 2005 when I purchased two Norfolk terriers. My dogs have taken both group and private lessons from Jan. She is very knowledgeable and helped me train my dogs and gave many important tips as I am a pet owner for the first time. I felt so comfortable with her treatment of my pets during training that I use her exclusively when I need to board them. When the dogs meet Jan for boarding even if it has been over a month or two since they have last seen her, one can immediately notice how they happily recognize and are excited to be with her and willingly obey her direction. Fortunately for us, he came with free training from Jan! To us, he was the most adorable and loving dog we had ever met (for me, it was love at first sight), but he literally could not stand still for more than two seconds, let alone sit, come when his name was called, or walk on a leash. Over the next six months, we enrolled him in several of Jan’s courses, including Companion I and II, Basic Agility Training, and private lessons. Our transformation was amazing! Brutus learned all of his basic commands, and I became a well trained dog owner. Better yet, the entire experience left me feeling much closer to our dog. Jan’s guidance was invaluable! She is extremely good at what she does. - Elizabeth I have known Jan for many years now. My dog groomer recommended her to me. I've used her for 'regular' obedience classes and for my Standard Poodle, she has done a lot of one-on-one training. She 'knows her stuff', and presents it in a firm, kind, and sometimes humorous way. In my experience, she's always been willing to 'go the extra mile'. When we arrived at ABC, Jan was very professional and thorough with her interview. We were most impressed with how she sought input from the entire family about our dog’s behavior. She immediately began to assess the situation and give us some tips. Along with showing us what we needed to work on, she gave us reading material to take home. Our Basset is doing much better! We would give ABC Dog Training a paw of approval! - The Neumann Family Coltrane and I began our first class relationship with Jan when Coltrane was 12 weeks old, in the puppy class. We learned 'puppy push-ups', socializing, and how to 'settle' and be handled; no small feat for a pup. When I say "we" I mean "we". One very important aspect I learned from Jan is that your relationship with your dog depends on communication. And I had to learn to communicate with Coltrane. I had to learn what I might be saying with my body even as I said something different with words. Over the years we have attended Companion Dog I and Companion Dog II classes more than once each and Jan's Therapy Dog class. We've had a lot of fun and work. I realized that even though Coltrane wanted to please me, I needed to practice our skills with him, many times to distraction. We have developed into a communicating team (most of the time). When we are out walking on our south valley irrigation ditch and six year old Coltrane wants to visit a donkey or chase an animal, he will turn on a dime to return to my blown whistle. People comment on the ease of walking with a dog who will listen, be aware of where you are, and stay near when off leash. I owe all my realizations about my communication with Coltrane to Jan. She does not shove these things down your throat, but they are there in her lessons. Jan is always available to talk about any related issue to dogs. Next Coltrane and I plan on learning to ride a bike with him safely running along side. Jan says she has a method. I always recommend Jan to anyone who is interested in taking up training/communicating with their dog. - Debra Rogers We have been using Jan Gribble as our dog trainer for many years now. We have had several new dogs over the course of the years and the first thing we do is take them to Jan. We would never dream of trying to train them on our own, even though we've been through the courses several times. (It takes longer to train us than it does the dogs!) Jan Gribble and her training of our dog Coal using the Koehler method of dog training was a "godsend" for us. Previous trainings had not worked. I was afraid that our aggressive dog was going to injure or kill a person or dog. I had been afraid to walk him outside our home, and always had to use a muzzle. I could not control him and did not trust myself with him. I finally refused to handle him outside and seriously thought he would have to be put down. But then Jan came into our lives and Coal was rehabilitated and we were trained how to work him. Her patience and style of teaching were the miracle we needed. If I had questions she always helped me to solve the problem with advice, onsite on the phone or on the e-mail. Coal's training lasted 12 weeks. I can now safely take out Coal to exercise, obedience train and socialize. He is worked without the muzzle and can be off lead without me being afraid of him being aggressive. We go to the plaza and meet people without incident. People can touch him without him biting them. My husband takes Coal to the dog park without incidents. Life has become normal again. Bug is a 12 pound Chihuahua/Boston Terrier mix. He is very timid around strangers. I took training classes with Jan for my dog, Bug, and me. It was a good experience. Attending the dog obedience classes gave him confidence in himself. He flourished under the discipline. I believe it gave him some rules and structure in his little life and increased his sense of safety in his world. For that, I credit Jan. Jan knows all the answers! And not in a haughty or false way. I believe she could solve any behavioral problem and train dogs to behave in such a manner that they are a joy to be around. -Susan Terry
